About the Mercedes Benz G Wagon AMG
Officially known as the “G-Class” line of vehicles from luxury German automotive manufacturer (sometimes called G-Wagen, short for Geländewagen which translates to “terrain vehicle”), the Mercedes Benz G Wagon G63 AMG is the top-seated, performance and luxury model of the G-wagon line-up.
The first AMG version was introduced in 1993, labelled the “500 GE 6.0 AMG” with only 13 units built. Subsequent successes of the G500 in the late 90s and the absorption of the AMG brand into the Mercedes-Benz group led to the development of the G55 AMG in 2001, featuring a 5.5L V8 engine, outputting 260 kW (349 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 525 nm of torque (387 lb/ft) at 2,800–4,000 rpm with a 0-100 time of 7.4 seconds. This engine was upgraded in 2004 with the introduction of the V8 supercharged engine, featuring a heart-racing 350 kW (469 hp) at 6,100 rpm, 700 nm of torque (516 lb/ft) at 2,650–4,500 rpm and 0-100 in 5.6 seconds.
One of the most popular version went to market in 2012 with the introduction of the infamous G63 AMG featuring a 5.5-litre BiTurbo V8 for 2012 for better fuel consumption and lower emission with a 0-100 time of 5.4 seconds, 400 kW (536 hp) at 5,500 rpm (2012-2015) or 420 kW (563 hp) at 5,500 rpm (2015-2018) and 800 Nm of torque (590 lb/ft) at 1,700–5,000 rpm. The latest version of the G63 AMG has been produced from 2018 onwards, featuring a V8 twin-turbo engine with 430 kW (577 hp) at 6,000 rpm, 850 Nm of torque (627 lb/ft) at 2,500–3,500 rpm and 0-100 time of 4.5 seconds.
One of the most notorious and aggressive of the AMG G Wagon range is the G65, built from 2012-2018 which featured a 6.0L V12 Biturbo engine with a humongous output of 450 kW (603 hp) at 4,300–5,600 rpm (2012-2015) and 463 kW (621 hp) at 4,800–5,400 rpm (2015-2018) respectively. With 1,000 Nm of torque (738 lb/ft) at 2,300–4,300 rpm, 0-100 of 5.3 seconds and top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph). This aggressive iteration of the AMG G-Wagon made it the fastest of the G-Class models until the end of its production in 2018.
